  2. Chemical Properties: Tests for the presence of proteins, glucose (sugar), ketones, bilirubin, urobilinogen, and blood in the urine.
  3. Microscopic Examination: Studies the cells, crystals, bacteria, and other elements present in the urine.

This test is typically performed to diagnose urinary tract infections, kidney diseases, diabetes, or other health conditions.

Urine Test For Glucose and Ketones

This is a quick and convenient test that measures the levels of sugar and ketones in the urine.

When there is insufficient sugar or glucose in the body, the liver produces ketones as an alternative fuel source to meet the body’s energy needs. This is commonly seen in diabetes, fasting, starvation, high-protein diets, or low-carbohydrate diets.

When blood glucose levels exceed a certain threshold (renal threshold), the kidneys are unable to reabsorb all the sugar, and excess sugar appears in the urine. This condition is known as glycosuria. It is commonly found in diabetes or during pregnancy.
