HbA1c / Glycosylated Hemoglobin Test

The HbA1c test, also known as the Glycosylated Hemoglobin Test, measures the average blood glucose levels over the past two to three months.

  • A level of 6.5% or higher indicates diabetes.
  • Levels between 5.7% and 6.4% suggest the prediabetes stage.

Glucose Tolerance Test / Glucose Challenge Test

After fasting overnight, the patient is given 200 grams of glucose dissolved in water, and their blood sugar levels are checked two hours later.

  • A level greater than 200 mg/dL after two hours indicates diabetes.
  • A level between 140 and 199 mg/dL suggests prediabetes, the stage before diabetes.
